About Universitas Jambi
The history of UNJA (Universitas Jambi) began as a teaching university with the name Universitas Negeri Telanaipura (UNT). The naming of UNT followed the content of the Decree of the Minister of Higher Education and Science (PTIP) Number 25 of 1963, dated March 25, 1963. When inaugurated on April 1, 1963, UNT had four Faculties: the Faculty of Economics, the Faculty of Law , the Faculty of Agriculture, and the Faculty of Animal Husbandry. Since then, April 1 has been celebrated as the Anniversary of UNT. This date continued to be the anniversary date when UNT changed its name to Universitas Negeri Jambi (UNJA). The name change to UNJA coincided with the confirmation of UNJA's establishment by the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia Number 148 of 1966, dated June 24, 1966. This Presidential Decree was retroactively applied to April 1, 1963. The origins of UNJA actually stem from a private higher education institution named Akademi Perniagaan Djambi. This academy was established in 1960 under the auspices of the Jajasan Perguruan Tinggi Djambi. This foundation was formed by community leaders and the Government of Jambi, chaired by R. Soedarsono, who was serving as the Mayor of Jambi at the time. In 1961, Akademi Perniagaan Djambi transformed into the Faculty of Economics. Concurrently, the Faculty of Law was established. Both faculties were affiliated with Universitas Indonesia. Subsequently, armed with these two faculties, community leaders and the Regional Government of Jambi fought for the establishment of a higher education institution in Jambi.
