About Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar

Universitas Muhammadiyah (Unismuh) Makassar, established on June 19, 1963, by the Muhammadiyah Association, was founded with the mission of Da’wah Amar Ma'ruf Nahi Munkar. Initially a branch of Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta, its establishment was documented in a notarial deed by R. Sinojo Wongsowidjojo (No. 71). On October 1, 1965, Unismuh Makassar officially became a recognized private university, following the initiatives of the 21st Muhammadiyah Regional Conference in Bantaeng Regency, South Sulawesi Province, Indonesia.

In 2018, Unismuh Makassar entered a transformative phase through a decree by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, which integrated STIKes Muhammadiyah Makassar under its administration. This expansion aligned with a broader national strategy for strengthening private religious universities. Under its first rector, Dr. Abdul Watif Masri, Unismuh Makassar initially offered two faculties: the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training and the Faculty of Tarbiyah. Over time, additional faculties were introduced, including Economics, Social and Political Sciences, Religion and Da’wah, Engineering (1987), and Medicine and Health Sciences (2008). The university also expanded its reach with branch campuses across South Sulawesi.

On January 23, 2024, Unismuh Makassar achieved "Excellent" accreditation status with a score of 368 from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT). Furthermore, in October 2023, the university was awarded the ISO 21001:2018 certification, signifying its adherence to international standards in educational organization management. These prestigious recognitions affirm Unismuh Makassar's commitment to providing quality higher education. Dedicated to public trust and excellence, Unismuh Makassar continues to build on its legacy through sustainable self-management and innovative growth, striving to address evolving academic and societal needs in an increasingly competitive landscape.
