For a standard international student, the monthly cost of living in Nouakchott is approximately $390 (15,500 MRU), covering expenses such as shared housing ($100-$175), transportation, and food. However, a significant exception applies to students under official government exchange agreements (mostly from the neighbooring countries), who are exempt from registration fees and receive priority for the University Residence (Cité Universitaire). By utilizing subsidized housing and the university canteen, their monthly budget is reduced to about $105 (4,200 MRU), ensuring that academic cooperation remains accessible and focused on regional integration.
