Université Hassiba Ben Bouali – Chlef

• ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY

Hassiba Benbouali University of Chlef is a public university in Algeria's province of Chlef that gathers numerous national higher education institutions.   The university bears Hassiba Benbouali's name. She was a martyr during the Algerian Independence War and passed away in 1957 at the age of 19.

The total number of students reaches 30,713 students, distributed in 09 faculties and two institutes, with a total of 38 departments, ensuring training in 12 fields in the LMD system, 105 majors in the master’s level, and 78 majors in the bachelor’s stage. 

For the academic year 2021-2022, the number of teaching and administrative staff has reached 1185 instructors and 1233 employees. 

Our university currently has 36 cooperation agreements with over 35 universities in 12 countries.  It maintains numerous relations with companies (private, and public...), at regional, national, and international levels.

• RANKING

For the academic year 2021/2022, Hassiba Ben Bouali University experienced a quantum leap in all fields. Accordingly, it ranked 14th out of 109 Algerian universities according to the arrangement approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It also ranked 15th according to the ARCIF ranking for the Arab world, in addition to the ranking of our university among the 24 best Algerian universities according to THE WEBMIRIX ranking, where it ranked 18.

The number of accredited research laboratories reaches 29 laboratories for scientific research. The university has 22 scientific journals.

• HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

The university's beginning is traced back to the official openings of the National Institute of Higher Education for Civil Engineering, which hosted 144 students in 1983. during the academic year 1986/1987, new structures were established by opening two national institutes of higher education (agricultural sciences and irrigation sciences).  In 1988, other programs have become available in mechanical engineering, electronics, business informatics, and accounting and taxation.

In 2006, the University of Chlef was reorganized to include five faculties and an institute.The efforts of the university administration culminated in strengthening its position among the universities of the country In 2011, the university was restructured into seven faculties and two institutes, namely:

The vice directorate of the university was also restructured into four vice presidents, to move to the ranks of A-class universities. And with the advent of the academic season 2021/2022, Hassiba Ben Bouali University in Ch ef was restructured into nine (09) faculties and two (02) institutes, following Executive Decree No. 21-377 of October 05, 2021. 

• FACILITIES/ STUDENT LIFE

Student life at Hassiba Benbouali University has many advantages. UHBC gathers a single site for all types of activities: educational, scientific, and associative. Classrooms, libraries, a computer resource center, sports spaces, and university restaurants are all accessible within a limited area. Numerous conferences, cultural and festive events, and community life punctuate daily life and provide many opportunities to broaden scientific training.

The services provide nine (09) university residences with approximately 12,821 beds distributed between males and females. Students can join clubs.

Students benefit from special buses that transport them from their residences to the different campuses of the university according to schedules fixed by the coordinator of the residences. The University has more than 107 buses for 10097 subscribers and a train for 809 subscribers.

• HEALTH

Doctors and nurses are available to help students in case of difficulties during their studies. Doctors can also give you advice on how to improve your health on a daily basis: sports, diet, ... Nurses provide care, advice, listening, etc. Primary care or general medicine is provided five days a week, from 9 am to 4:30 pm.

• LIBRARY

-3 reading spaces with a capacity of 750 seats, which in turn include several annexes.
