The University Kasdi Merbah Ouargla has its origins in the Ecole Normale Supérieure (E.N.S.) established by Decree No. 65-88 of 22 March 1988.
In 1997, by the Decree n°159-97 of March 10, 1997 is created the University Center of Ouargla which gathers from now on under its authority the National Institute of Higher Training in Saharan Agronomy (INAFSAS - Decree n°337-97 of September 10, 1997).
The University of Kasdi Merbah-Ouargla is currently composed of 10 faculties and two institutes; each of them has several departments.
Four large campuses make up the main architecture of the University. Since September 05, 2005, the University is now called "University Kasdi Merbah Ouargla".
More than 32000 students are spread out over ten (10) faculties and two (02) institutes.
