University of Aden

University  of Aden is the first non-profit Yemeni public university, established in the Republic of Yemen alongside Sana'a University, and its establishment represents an extension and honest communication of the cultural and educational traditions of the Yemeni people, and to achieve the goals of the September and October revolutions.

The establishment of the College of Higher Education in 1970 and the Nasser College of Agricultural Sciences in 1972 are the main link for the launch of the University of Aden, as these colleges were under the control of the Minister of Education, and the objectives of their establishment were linked to the urgent need to meet part of the development requirements, which is represented in the preparation of specialists for a number of state facilities. In 1973, the Faculty of Economics was established and each faculty formed an administrative unit.

When the need for the establishment of a number of other colleges arose, a ministerial decision was issued to form a ministerial committee for the university city headed by the Prime Minister, and on September 10, 1975, Law No. 22 of 1975 was issued concerning the establishment of the University of Aden as a scientific institution with a legal personality. The law defined the objectives of the university as follows:

- Preparing and qualifying scientific cadres in various disciplines.

- Conducting scientific research in a way that serves social and economic development.

In the year of its establishment, the university included the following faculties:

- Faculty of Education 1970

- Nasser College of Agricultural Sciences, 1972

- Faculty of Economics 1973

- College of Higher Education, Mukalla, 1974

- Faculty of Medicine 1975

During the period 1975-1990, a number of colleges and branches were established, including the Faculty of Law in 1978, the Faculty of Engineering in 1978, the College of Education Zanzibar in 1979, and the Faculty of Education Saber in 1980.

Although the law has defined the features of the academic and organizational activity of the University of Aden, and considers the colleges as units supervised by the central administration of the university, and defines its tasks and the tasks of the University Council, and proposes the establishment of new scientific councils, committees and departments. However, the university has suffered a lot since its establishment, and this is due to:

- Generality of the law establishing the university.

- Failure to issue an executive regulation clarifying what was vague in the law.

- Gradual control of political decision as an alternative to legal texts.

In 1981, the first conference for higher education was held, and in this conference, an attempt was made to fix the legal and organizational imbalance in the life of the University of Aden, and a new draft of the university's law was drafted as well as a large set of regulations and regulations regulating the various aspects of the university's life. It was hoped that all the members of the University of Aden would issue the regulations submitted to the First Conference of Higher Education. But everything stopped because the law did not see the light of day due to the political tensions experienced in the southern governorates.
