About University of East Sarajevo

The University of East Sarajevo is one of two public universities in Republic of Srpska, and one of eight in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Founded in 1992, it is the first accredited public higher education institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina. University of East Sarajevo has distinctive character because its 15 faculties and 2 academies are in ten different cities and towns in eastern part of Republic of Srpska.

The University of East Sarajevo enrolls more than 10000 students across with faculty members and students studying and teaching across more than 110 programs at the level of Bachelor, Master, long-cycle master’s and Doctoral studies organized in accordance with Bologna Declaration principles. The University also offers programmes in foreign language. Study programs are modern and up to date with the latest developments in science and research, increasing vertical and horizontal mobility. Besides studying, students can chance to get involved in many extracurricular activities organized by Students' Union Republic of Srpska and Student Parliament of the University of East Sarajevo.  

University of East Sarajevo continuously invests in facilities, to provide a suitable environment for studying and research, from classrooms and theatres to research centers and laboratories.

The University of East Sarajevo has been actively involved in major projects and programs (Tempus, IPA, Erasmus+, Horizon 2020, COST, etc.) providing improvement of academic community, exchange of teaching staff and students, volunteering or work abroad, cooperation with industry in order to commercialize innovative products or services, improvement of infrastructure. The University has bilateral agreements signed with partner universities from all corners of the globe, and is a member of several university networks and international associations (European University Association, the University Network of the Adriatic and Ionian Basin, Danube Rectors’ Conference).

The basic condition for enrollment in study programs in the first year of the first cycle of studies is the completion of a four-year secondary education in the Republic of Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina, or equivalent education abroad. Candidates who have previously completed the first cycle of relevant academic studies and acquired at least 240 ECTS credits have the right to apply for the competition for enrollment in the second cycle of studies valued at 60 ECTS credits. Candidates who have previously completed the first cycle of relevant academic studies and acquired at least 180 ECTS credits have the right to apply for the competition for enrollment in the second cycle of studies valued at 120 ECTS credits. Candidates who meet the following conditions have the right to apply for the competition for enrollment in doctoral studies: • persons who have completed academic studies of the second cycle, ie integrated studies with at least 300 ECTS credits and an average grade of at least 8.00 in both the first and second cycle of studies, ie integrated studies, knowledge of a foreign language and fulfillment of other conditions prescribe by acts of the faculty, and depending on the scientific field; • persons who, according to previously valid regulations, have completed postgraduate-master studies for obtaining the title of Master of Science in the relevant scientific field, an average grade of at least 8.00 in both undergraduate and postgraduate studies, knowledge of a foreign language and fulfillment of other conditions scientific fields that can be prescribed by faculty acts; • persons whose degree in the equivalence procedure acquired according to previously valid regulations is equal to the title acquired upon completion of the second cycle of studies in the relevant scientific field, have an average grade from previous studies of at least 8.00 in each cycle, knowledge of a foreign language and fulfillment other conditions depending on the scientific field that can be prescribed by the acts of the faculty.
