University of Economics in Katowice (UEKat) was founded in 1937 and is the biggest and oldest business school in the region of Upper Silesia, one of five public economic universities in Poland. Each year over 8 000 Polish and international students follow degree programs at bachelor, master and doctoral levels. The UEKat has over 80 years of tradition, around 500 outstanding academic teachers and 90 000 graduates who are highly regarded by employers. The diversified study offer and lifelong learning programs attract students from all over the world and from every generation. Due to the balance between academic strength and soft skills in the curricula as well as professional career services the employability of UEKat’s graduates is very high. From among all public higher education institutions in the region, the graduates of UEKat are the fastest to start work after obtaining their diploma (1.60 months) and to receive their first permanent employment contract (2.12 months) [data from 4th edition of ELA – Polish Graduate Tracking System (2019)].

The University’s operating philosophy has been specified in the mission and vision included in the 2018-2025 Development Strategy of the University of Economics in Katowice. All study programs, activities or projects implemented at the UEKat are based on the mission, values, as well as priorities specified in the Strategy. It is worth noting that apart from the abovementioned Development Strategy – as one of the few Universities in Poland – UEKat also has also adopted the 2018-2025 Internationalization Strategy which sets priorities for research, didactics and societal impact in the context of internationalisation.

The mission of the UEKat is to provide a modern study offer and high-quality research in respect of selected disciplines, with an academic community that creates and disseminates knowledge and new ideas, and that is open to expert international cooperation. The core values include: quality, internationalization, social responsibility, innovation, integrity, excellence.

The UEKat cooperates with many universities and foreign institutions from around the world. At the moment, there are over 290 agreements concerning staff and students mobility within the Erasmus+. In addition, the University has concluded 86 framework agreements, on the basis of which academic exchange also well scientific-research cooperation is developing.

The efficient functioning of the university, good level of scientific research and high quality study offer is confirmed by the CEEMAN IQA accreditation, which is one of the most prestigious and valued accreditations in the area of managerial education. The university has also obtained eligibility and proceeds to the next steps of applying for the AACSB institutional accreditation and EFMD Program Accreditation for the Master in International Business program. 

Another important aspect confirming the potential of the university is the HR Excellence in Research Logo award. It guarantees the best working conditions for the scientists associated at the University within four colleges: : Economics, Finance, Information Technology and Communication and Management.  The logo is awarded to institutions which conduct recruitment processes in a transparent manner and in accordance with the guidelines of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. All these activities are aimed at strengthening the position of the UEKat in the national and international education market.
