The University of National and World Economy, Sofia (UNWE) is the oldest, the most prestigious and largest economic university in Bulgaria and Southeastern Europe. UNWE is the largest Bulgarian university with about 20 000 students in 43 Bachelor's degree and 88 Master`s degree specialties as well as about 400 Bulgarian and foreign doctoral students in 41 PhD programs. UNWE collaborates with more than 140 universities from all over the world working with them on joint Master’s degree programs, research projects, distance learning, exchange of students and academic staff. UNWE is well known for its educational excellence, with employers often referring to it as the Bulgarian Harvard due to the high caliber of its
graduates. Since its establishment 100 years ago the UNWE faculty members and alumni are eminent scientists, government figures, prime ministers, ministers, deputies in the National Assembly, politicians, the first Bulgarian European Commissioner after the Lisbon Treaty entered into force, the first Bulgarian - Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the first Bulgarian - Director General of Eurostat, ambassadors, representatives of our country in prestigious international organizations, mayors, public figures, businessmen, bankers, among other. Over the last years six of the Bulgarian Prime Ministers are graduates of UNWE including the first woman prime minister.
