Overview

With a history that stretches back as far as 1150, the University of Paris enjoys a centuries-old reputation for academic excellence, particularly in the humanities, and was once considered the second oldest university in Europe. Today, the university technically consists of 13 separate institutions, which are numbered one to 13 as well as given a name (e.g. Paris-Dauphine University). The university has produced 50 Nobel Prize winners, making it the second most successful institution outside of the English-speaking world. It has also taught 11 French presidents and the leaders of several other countries.
