The University of
Roehampton has modern facilities for teaching and learning across its beautiful
campus. At the heart of the campus is the University Library which has over
1,200 study spaces, private rooms for group work and 24-hour computer
facilities.
In 2020 the
University opened a brand-new digital media centre which is home to world class
facilities for students studying media, communications, computing, linguistics,
film and photography. It includes two newsrooms that replicate real working
environments, a film studio with state-of-the-art technology and equipment, Mac
computers with professional software for animation and coding, and extensive
resources for sound editing and production, including radio and podcasting.
Students studying
Life and Health Sciences courses have access to a biomechanics laboratory,
featuring 3D motion capture systems, ultrasound scanners and acoustic measuring
facilities; a physiology laboratory, which includes environmental chambers,
electromyography equipment, a neuromuscular electrical stimulator and isometric
strength testing devices. There are also a range of laboratories for biomedical
and biological science and zoology. For our nursing students, there is a
dedicated Clinical Simulation Centre, and work is underway to develop a new
healthcare hub on campus. Roehampton also offers state-of-the-art teaching
rooms for psychology students, which include mobile eye-tracking systems, brain
stimulation therapy including Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and
magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology.
In addition to
our academic facilities, we have excellent extra-curricular facilities,
including a gym, music rooms, and one of the best university esports arenas in
the UK. We also have a wide range of social spaces, including cafes, bars,
prayer spaces and facilities for students commuting to campus.
Student life
Our location in
south west London gives our students the best of both worlds. With an active
calendar of events and activities taking place on campus, and being located
just 30 minutes from London Waterloo, there is plenty to keep busy with.
On campus
Our campus is set
in 54 acres of parkland. There is plenty of outdoor space for you to stretch
your legs or find a quiet place. Students can volunteer to look after the
campus rabbits and chickens or volunteer to grow and tend to the crops grown on
campus.
There are a range
of facilities including a gym, sports courts and a shop for essentials. The
University has a number of bars, social spaces and catering outlets and our
venues host regular events including club nights, live music and weekly
markets.
In the local area
Roehampton is
perfectly located to make the most of the benefits of living in London. The
surrounding areas of Putney, Wimbledon and Richmond offer a wide range of bars,
restaurants, and shopping. There are also a number of theatres and cinemas, and
some of London’s best museums are just a bus ride away. For the sports fans,
Wimbledon All England Tennis Club is just a short distance from campus, and a great
day out during the summer. Twickenham Rugby Stadium, the home of English rugby,
is a couple of stops on the train and there are a number of football stadia in
the surrounding areas.
Trains from our
local station run into London Waterloo, right on the banks of The Thames. From
here you can explore everything the capital has to offer. If you are interested
in history and museums, there are loads to choose from. Some of our favourites
are the V&A, The Wellcome Collection and The Tate. The east end is an
exciting place to visit with plenty of history - the Jack the Ripper walking
tour is not to be missed. And for great bars, restaurants and all the shopping
you could ever want, go no further than Soho and Covent Garden!
