Through the Master of International Security you will develop an understanding of both traditional and emerging security challenges and apply theories to real-world situations and current policy debates. Engage with a wide range of complex and interconnected issues, including the causes and consequences of war between states; ethnic, religious and ideological conflicts; threats to security and the stability of states from environmental degradation, infectious diseases, climate change, nuclear proliferation, and the activities of non-state actors. This course draws on a wide range of fields including defence, international relations, strategic studies, political science, economics, environmental studies, law, business, public health, biology and demography.

Admission to candidature for the Master of International Security (2 year full time) requires: A bachelor’s degree with a minimum credit (65 percent) average calculated over the whole degree, from the University of Sydney, or an equivalent qualification. If you do not meet the requirements listed above for direct entry to the Master’s degree, you may be able to enter via a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in the same subject area and upgrade to the Master’s after successful completion of the shorter course.
