University Targu Mures Medical Campus Hamburg (UMCH)

The University Targu Mures Medical Campus Hamburg (UMFST-UMCH) is a privately operated branch of the Romanian state-run George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science, and Technology of Targu Mures (UMFST), which has stood for excellence in research and teaching for over 70 years.

UMFST-UMCH provides a high-caliber practical and science-oriented education in English in Germany – a combination that is unique in this form. The students learn at a state university while simultaneously enjoying the benefits of a privately operated campus. Classes are held in small groups, which allows for particularly close and personal support. At UMFST-UMCH, the professors know all of the students by name and on a personal level. In this way, individual strengths and talents are specifically promoted. In addition, great importance is attached to the promotion of social skills, as these are of great importance in the professional life of doctors.

The theoretical content is taught in English at the campus in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld - the clinical-practical part of the studies, on the other hand, takes place in German/English in a nationwide network of teaching hospitals from the 3rd year of study.

The campus, which covers more than 6,000 m², has an excellent teaching and learning infrastructure, such as a virtual anatomy and dissection table as well as high-tech lecture halls, seminar rooms and laboratories. All rooms where teaching takes place are equipped with multiple high-definition cameras, which among other benefits allows students to access learning content such as streamings of lectures regardless of time and location.

In addition to regular courses, UMCH also offers its students a wide range of extracurricular lectures and workshops as well as an extensive counseling program. Furthermore, student life is positively complemented and actively promoted by numerous student clubs – for example in the areas of sports and music.
