University of Technology - Iraq

We have the pleasure to put forward between the hands of our orbiter and respected readers a brief introduction about a giant symbol of science, knowledge, and modern civilization of our beloved country. This university represents one of the most important institutions of the MOHESR which with honor leads the march of progress and modern development in the construction, industry and transporting technology in order to place Iraq in its rightful position among the developed countries. The university has received the admiration of all faithful of this country by providing scientific and practical services for all social sectors such as teaching, applied research, training, rehabilitation, and consultation which confirmed the UOT Moto:

The picture of University of technology that has been drawn from these lines is not enough to identify all the details of its real image and we hope that this Introduction would be the motivation for more about it and we are sure, however, looking for that, there are other evidence and bulletins which complete the real picture.

The university is a secure campus in which science is flourished in its premises and furnishes creativity, innovation, and scientific invention. It shines creative intellectual and technical contribution to build the life and upgrade to reach perfection and progress for the purpose of human happiness and satisfy his legitimate needs.

The University of Technology is a scientific, educational, and applied institution. UOT aims to provide scientific and engineering staff in various specialties to meet the required economic, social development, reconstruction the country and achieving scientific development in various fields by contributing in scientific applied researches and what it presents of scientific and engineering consultation and also technical services. The university also provides academic qualifying staff to teach in universities and institute besides the specialists in critical scientific and engineering fields in graduate studies. The university is seeking to develop new tracks in engineering education, training, rehabilitation and development during the service to give the opportunity for the employees to keep pace with scientific and technological progress which serve the development plans through training courses, meetings, and scientific conferences.  In addition, the university aims to exchange experiences, integration, and cooperation in scientific, engineering and technical fields.   

The roots for the establishment of University of technology were apparent before the year 1960. The start was with “Higher Industrial Institute” which was converted in 1967 to a college named “Engineering Industrial College”. The name later changed again in 1969 to “Industrial College” and then to “Technology Engineering College”. As a result of the increasing demand for engineering disciplines to implement giant projects, the resolution for establishing the University of Technology was taken in Baghdad in 1975 as an independent university.    

The university council is the highest administrative and scientific authority in the university which exercises the administrative, scientific and financial functions appointed according to law besides the authorized power given to it by the minister.
