The level of education required for success in the accounting profession has increased significantly. Graduate education not only facilitates entry into the profession but also enhances career progress and job mobility. The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, National Association of State Boards of Accountancy, Utah Association of CPAs, and many other professional organizations strongly endorse graduate accounting education. The School of Accounting offers the Master of Accounting (MAcc) degree to develop highly qualified professionals for leadership positions in the accounting profession. What’s more valuable than an accounting degree? An accounting degree from one of the top-ranked programs in the nation. The David Eccles School of Business MAcc program and the accounting faculty are among the nation’s best. Evidence of this status is provided by the fact that Utah was among the first schools to obtain special accreditation for its accounting programs from the AACSB–The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Our MAcc program provides students with in-depth accounting knowledge, a reputation for sound judgment and the relevant, transferable skills they need to succeed in today’s multidisciplinary world. Don’t just take our word for it. Both the graduate program at the School of Business is ranked in the top 25 in the 2013 Public Accounting Report’s prestigious annual survey of more than 1,700 programs around the country. The MAcc readies students to sit for the Utah CPA exam and prepares them for careers in public and corporate accounting, tax auditing and advising, non-profit, government accounting, and financial reporting. While most students complete the program in two semesters, the MAcc can be completed part-time over four semesters while working full-time. At every pace, the MAcc gives students a solid foundation in the principles of accounting, as well as breadth of knowledge in related business disciplines. Throughout the program, the School of Business places a strong emphasis on analytical thinking, communication skills and professionalism. Our nationally-ranked faculty-including two former academic fellows at the SEC-combines pioneering research and dynamic instruction to engage students in helping to shape the future of accounting. By learning the language of business, our students graduate with a versatile skill set that translates into high quality job placement. In fact, over the past decade an average of 95% of our MAcc students have secured employment within three months of graduation.
