About Yunnan Normal University

Yunnan Normal University (YNNU) began as the Teachers College of the National Southwest Associated University, founded in 1938. In 1946, when Peking, Tsinghua, and Nankai Universities returned to their northern campuses, the Teachers College stayed in Kunming, becoming an independent institution that later evolved into YNNU. The School of Management is a leading hub for management education, with a global outlook focused on South and Southeast Asia.

The School of Management offers master’s programs in Business Administration and Public Administration, including five specialized degrees: an MBA (QS Stars 5-Star certified), MPA, MTA, MPAcc (Master of Professional Accounting), and MAud. At the undergraduate level, it provides six programs: Accounting, Auditing, Public Administration, Labor and Social Security, Tourism Management (a nationally recognized flagship program), and an International Cooperative Accounting Program with Ireland’s National College ("3+1"/"4+0" pathways). These programs create a strong management education system tailored for international careers.

The School has 99 faculty members, including 13 full professors and 38 associate professors, with 55 holding doctoral degrees. Its teaching stands out with nationally recognized online courses and provincial excellence courses. The School’s case-based teaching method, with cases featured in national and provincial databases, is highly regarded. Partnerships with top companies and 15 industry-focused training centers boost graduate employability.

In the past five years, the School has secured over 60 national and provincial research grants, including 10+ national projects, published 350+ academic papers, and produced 33 scholarly books. Its research has earned 37 awards for policy impact and academic excellence. Key research areas include:

  • Investment risk management
  • Tourism innovation in border regions
  • Cross-border e-commerce targeting South and Southeast Asia
  • Public governance in border areas
  • Risk prevention and ecological governance in frontier zones
  • Educational management in border communities

The School’s global focus includes the Sino-Irish Accounting Program and partnerships with the University of Nottingham (UK), University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UK), and University of New Brunswick (Canada). These collaborations prepare students for global management roles, particularly in Asia.

Through the Yunnan Industrial Finance Development Research Institute, co-founded with the provincial government, the School draws on resources from the Pan-Asia Financial Cooperation Development Association and its Postdoctoral Research Station. This fosters government-industry-academia collaboration, supporting regional economic and social development.

Building on the legacy of the Southwest Associated University, the School of Management is committed to nurturing outstanding management professionals. It aims to be Western China’s leading management institution with a strong presence in South and Southeast Asia.
