GERMAN EDUCATION IS AS GOOD AS THEIR FOOTBALL– CONGRATULATIONS GERMANY ON A WELL DESERVED WORLD CUP GLORY!
Study Abroad 365 has put together a list of 25 universities in Germany that are tuition free for international students seeking to study in Germany. However, be informed that while studying in Germany, you’ll be required to finance your feeding and accommodation expenses. International students should budget roughly 500 Euros for their books, healthcare, food and registration. So in one year, an international student should expect to spend 7000 Euros on feeding, accommodation and books expenses.
HOW TO OBTAIN A VISA
To obtain a German visa, you’ll have to show concrete finance proof of your ability to finance your accommodation and feeding expenses during your time of study. This can be done in either of two ways:
(1) Submit a letter of finances to the German consulate or embassy. You can obtain this sponsor letter from your parents or a German relative who is willing to sponsor your studies in Germany.
(2) Open a German blocked account and deposit roughly 7000 euro. This can only happen once you’ve received your letter of admission. This blocked account is opened in the German embassy.
For more information, visit a German consulate in your home country or check out their websites for further details.

Dear Laura,
I am a Pakistani National, recently graduated with Computer Science Degree from England, UK. I would like to start with masters now, and that too from abroad. In your best knowledge, which German universities are offering Master's program for free or with nominal charges? I do not have sufficient funds to sponsor myself but masters has become important to stabilize the future.
Any help and advice will be highly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
saaj.

Hi Syed, I'm afraid only bachelor and PhD studies in Germany are free of charge, but Germany's tuition fees are lower than some other countries. To find out more about fees and living costs see this article and to learn more about masters-level studies, see our international student guide. For more general information on Germany, see here. Hi Talha, master's degrees in Germany still charge tuition fees but often they are less than in some other European countries. Learn more about this with our How Much Will It Cost to Study in Germany? article. The majority of programs will be taught in German, but many schools are now offering English-taught programs for some subjects. We have an article called Study in Germany in English which can help you find available programs.

Scholarships are an option, although these tend to be highly competitive. For more information on finding scholarships see our FAQ or, for a range of current scholarships, see our Scholarships to Study in Germany article.

To find the world's top universities for architecture, see our latest subject rankings (where you can filter the country to Germany).

Good luck! LT

Hi Ms. Laura, I am planning to do my MBA from Munich, Germany. So, can you please help me out by suggesting some universities which has a Low tuition fee or like Tution Free. And can you let me know what Qualifications should I have to be eligible to take the MBA program in a university. I am pursuing my final year of BBA in Finance and Taxation with 63% of marks.

Hi Gulam, I'm afraid that master's degrees in Germany still aren't tuition free - particularly MBA programs which tend to be among the most expensive programs. Entry requirements also vary widely so you'll have to check each school's program details for this information. To find a list of leading universities in Germany within business you should check out our business subject rankings or, to view schools only in Munich (Bavaria) see our state-by-state guide. Good luck, LT

Please I want to know the list of universities that do not require application fee before reviewing one's documents.

I am from Nigeria and as you know, the official and the common language is English. So, do I still need to provide an English proficiency test?

Hi there, you can find out whether a school charges an application fee by looking on their website but this is often only a nominal fee and not widespread. As for English-language proficiency, if English is also your first language you shouldn't have to provide test results. (For programs in German however, German-language proficiency will be needed) Good luck! L

Hey! If you're looking to study at a reputed university you should first take a look at our subject rankings of the world's top universities for mechanical & aeronautical engineering. From there you can then look at our article - Where Can You Study Abroad for Free? - which list free and cheap counries to study - mainly in Europe. Many other European countries also offer cheap tuition but they may not have as many universities featured within our world rankings.

Getting a scholarship is also an option - take a look at our range of articles here.

Have a good day!

Hi Dee, you can learn more about master's study in Germany with this article and find out more about costs/tuition fees here. Although we don't have a dedicated ranking for nursing/midwifery, you can find the top German universities for medicine here. Although not all the schools listed will offer nursing programs, chances are some will. Alternatively, you can look for more specialized schools online - although we don't have any information about these on TU. If you don't speak German, you'll also have the added difficulty of finding an English-taught program. More information on this can be found here.

To find all of our articles on studying in Germany, see this page.

Hello Laura,

I hope you can point me in the right direction. I have never lived in Germany but have recently received my German nationality via my grandfather. I would like to explore the possibility of studying an MBA in Germany. I would like to educate myself on the financial aid that the German government provides for Germans (NOT international students) and how to apply to get the aid. I am not even sure if I am even a candidate to receive such aid. I hope I am. I do have a German passport. I am sure Germans are familiar with this process but this is all new to me. Thank you in advance,

Regards,
-Andres

Hi Andres, congrats on getting a German passport! You're right, this should make you eligible for at least some form of financial aid such as grants and scholarships - you may even be able to apply for a loan - such as from BAfog. My advice would be to first find a university that offers a reputed MBA program. At this level, more English language programs are available, but you'll have even more options if you speak German! Our sister site TopMBA.com has a definitive ranking of European business schools which you can use to find the names of reputed MBA providers or our subject rankings for business & management may also be helpful. From there, visit each school's official website, where there'll be information on funding and financial aid offered by the school and externally, as well as details about their MBA program.

These schools may also help you with your search for financial aid if you contact them directly. We also have an overview article on graduate funding worldwide.

Good luck! Laura

Hi Chris, have you seen our article on Studying in Germany in English? It explains that English-led programs with free tuition are still few and far between, meaning that unless you're willing to study at a university of applied science or at a vocational school, you may have difficulty finding a program. Don't let that stop you searching though! (see the article for more info on how to find these programs).

Good luck! L

Hi Paul, we have a subject ranking of the top universities for earth & marine sciences as well as a ranking for environmental sciences which will be helpful to show you leading German universities in your field. Not all the schools listed will offer meteorology as its own program but perhaps a similar program will be offered that you're interested in.

If you opt for a master's degree, it's likely that you'll still have to pay tuition fees, so do check. Scholarships are available however so check school websites, government schemes and our FAQ for more information.

To see all the practical info we have on Germany, visit this page. I hope it helps!

Hi Saiyad, if you can speak German you have a very good chance of getting admitted to a tuition-free university! I'd recommend that you use the offical DAAD website (as it is written in German language) and our subject rankings for computer science to find leading German universities in your field. We also have a Study in Germany FAQ with answers to general questions. Hope this helps!

Hello everyone!
I'm from Brazil and I intend to apply for a Business, Economics, or Logistics / Supply Chain Management Masters degree, in Germany.
I've checked and most of the universities request a 2.5 minimum average grade (germany pattern) on bachelor degree. My bachelor degree average grade is around 3.1 (converting from brazilian pattern to German pattern).
Does anyone knows if is there any possibility for me to be approved in any University in Germany for a Masters degree?
Thanks in advance, Leandro.

Hi Leandro, it sounds as if your grades are more than enough to permit you, but your chances of admission will also heavily depend on the strength of your application - not just your grades but also your personal statement and resume. If you're still unsure, you should contact the school's admissions team before applying for advice.

For the names of leading schools, see the subject rankings for business & management and economics & econometrics.

Good luck! L

Hi, I'm from Malaysia and I will soon be finishing my STPM (Malaysia Higher School Certificate). I want to study Chemical Engineering. Will STPM be recognized and what are the requirements? Are there universities that you can recommend that use English as the medium of instruction? Thank you.

Hi there, it's likely that you'll be restricted from entering a German university before completing a subject-restricted preparatory course, which takes one year of study and aims to prepare you for German higher education. This is due to the fact that German universities require students to hold a number of years of academic history before they're eligible to study. For more information on this, see question 3 of our Study in Germany FAQ.

Hi Pravi, I don't want to give you the wrong information, so this is something you should ask the authority which granted your local visa/work permit. It's possible that you won't be able to work full time, but many students are permitted a restricted number of working hours, without a workpermit. L

Hi Rabee, as medicine is one of the more competitive subjects, it may be difficult to find a program offered in English. For more information on studying in Germany in English see this article.

For a look at costs, see our How Much Does it Cost to Study in Germany? article. We also have a scholarships article which may be useful (if you can't find a university with free tuition, another option is to attend a private school and apply for a scholarship to pay the tuition fees).

The leading German universities to study medicine can be found on our subject rankings.

Hope this helps! L
