Students pursuing a  Bachelor of Arts  in  History  engage with the human experience by studying the people, places, and events of our shared global past.

Learn

Students of history gain an understanding of the past as well as deeper insight into the present. Learning history isn’t about memorizing facts, it’s about conducting research, interpreting sources, making compelling arguments, and constructing intriguing narratives. These skills equip students of history for successful careers and enable them to participate in public life as informed, thoughtful, and articulate world citizens.

Majors in History take a class in historical research and writing and five advanced courses exploring specific regions, periods, and themes. Students complete their degree with an intense one-semester seminar in which they produce a work of original research.

Opportunities

Our students have numerous opportunities to make the most of their history education, including:

  • Applying for special scholarships for History majors and minors
  • Taking travel-study courses
  • Pursuing independent research in libraries and archives in the US and abroad
  • Presenting research findings at the Undergraduate Symposium
  • Completing an internship at a museum, archive, or historic site
  • Joining Phi Alpha Theta, a national history honor society

Our graduates go on to successful careers in education, business, law, and public service.
