This program of study has led graduating majors to careers in communication industries and to success in fields related to communication such as business, education, government/politics, health, international relations and negotiations, and social and human services. Majors have successfully completed graduate programs in many fields including communication, business, and law. Students majoring in Communication develop the following skills: graduates will understand the major theories in the areas of Interpersonal Communication, Rhetorical Studies and Media Studies; will understand the research skills necessary for their area of study; will have the skill necessary to organize and write a coherent paper examining a current theoretical topic in communication; will have the skills to analyze and articulate logical arguments; will have the ability to express themselves effectively both verbally and in writing; will understand the ethical issues inherent in sending and receiving messages; and will have an in-depth understanding of the ideas and methods of one of the three major subfields in Communication.

Students should pursue a strong college preparatory program that includes four units of English, mathematics, social studies, and foreign language, as well as four units of a lab science. Such a program provides a solid foundation for high quality college work, as well as a stronger application in a highly selective admission process. Also they must hold a minimum TOEFL score of 600 on the paper-based test, and 250 on the computer-based test. Students applying from British systems must be enrolled in an ‘A’ level program to be considered.
