In these interactive sessions, our tutors will model effective teaching and classroom management strategies. They’ll then pause their ‘teaching’ to clarify their actions and the reasons behind them. Specialist facilities, such as our DT room, gymnasium, music room and art studio, are designed to replicate the school environments you’ll be teaching in, allowing you to learn in authentic settings.
In addition to your subject-specific sessions, you’ll also cover topics like behaviour management and inclusive practice, as well as carry out your own research project. In each year, our 'Developing Self' module will equip you with tools for good mental health and wellbeing, and give you space to reflect on your personal development.
The route you choose will determine the focus of your modules. For example, if you choose early years, you’ll learn how to adapt a maths lesson for 3 or 4-year-olds. In a later years group, you might be creating a computing lesson plan for 10-year-olds.
No matter which route you choose, you will qualify to teach across all primary areas – giving you flexibility throughout your career.

Admission Requirements

You'll need to have achieved a grade 4 (formerly grade C) in the GCSE examinations in English Language or English Literature, Mathematics and Science, or standard equivalent (applicants must have these qualifications by the start of the course). Alternatively, we offer an equivalency test if you don’t have the required GCSE grade to apply for our courses. Trainees who begin courses before providing evidence of the required GCSE standard (or equivalent) will not be eligible for financial incentives, such as bursaries or grants until they achieve the required standard.
You'll also be required to demonstrate that you have the health and character sufficient to teach. This includes a satisfactory Enhanced DBS, a check against the Prohibition List and other safeguarding reviews. You'll also have an online occupational health assessment, to certify that you have the required physical and mental fitness to be a teacher, as set by the Department of Education.
If you have lived, studied or worked overseas for three months or more in the last five years a Certificate of Good Conduct from the country of residence will be required. Further information and guidance associated with additional costs are available from the Home Office.
