Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology Jalandhar

Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India has established thirty one National Institutes of Technology in India to impart quality technical education, to pursue research activities in niche areas of technology, to innovate and to create new knowledge. Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology Jalandhar, also know as NIT Jalandhar, established in 2002 as one of the premier NITs in the country under the flagship of "Institute of National Importance" and is well known for imparting Quality Technical Education, to take up research in frontier areas of technology and to create new knowledge. This year, we intended to participate in QS ranking to present global outreach of our institute. We would like to bring to your knowledge the latest developments that have taken place in the institute during the last two years. 

Institute has raised annual expenditure to about 108 Crore this year to compete with top 500 ranked institutes of our country in QS ranking.  The present faculty to student ratio has been raised to about 1:15. International faculty from top 100 QS ranked institutes as a visiting faculty are regularly invited to institute through GAIN programme and guest lecture to take courses. Present overall intake of the institute is about 4200 students and the institute at present offer 11 UG programmes with intake of 1137 per year, 29 Masters programme with intake of 540 per year and Doctorate (PhD) in sixteen major disciplines of Engineering, Science, Humanities and Management. Institute regularly offers summer internships to students across the globe. The institute has enrolled more than 124 research scholars in different departments that lead to the present total PhD student strength of about 480. Intake for the international students has increased. The publication data of the institute has shown an exponential growth both in number and quality of publications in Scopus and SCI journals. There has been great thrust to increase internal revenue generation through consultancy and R&D projects. A lot of emphasis has been given to collaborate with Academic, Scientific and Industrial organisations both at National and International levels. 

The institute is not only imparting quality technical education & research to the students but also inculcate entrepreneur skills amongst the students. For this purpose the institute has established Technology Business Incubation Centre at a total cost of Rs. 2.71 Crores and has also established Space Technology Incubation Centre in liaison with ISRO. Institute has received 21 proposals from incubatees for starting new start-ups and has also received 12 proposals for Space Technology Business Incubation Centre. Research and consultancy of the institute has been raised to 1.01 Crore last year. 

We are glad to share that placement level of NITJ students has grown to about 90% with the highest salary package of 39.12 Lakhs (Adobe & Microsoft).
