What is the difference between scholarships funded by an institution or by QS WM?
A scholarship by an institution is completely sponsored by them, therefore you must be applying for that institution to be eligible. You must be accepted to study there to win the scholarship. Further eligibility criteria and requirements vary by scholarship.
QS WM Scholarships are funded by us here at QS. You can be admitted to any institution on the appropriate study level to be considered. Further eligibility criteria and requirements vary by scholarship.
What does an exclusive scholarship mean?
An exclusive scholarship means that the scholarship is not advertised or available anywhere else but on our platform. To be eligible for these scholarships, you must attend one of our events (currently online) as they are exclusively available for event attendees.
What if a scholarship is not exclusive?
It means that the scholarship is advertised on other platforms and websites as well, and so are available to a wider audience. You don’t need to attend one of our events to apply (but we’d love to see you anyway).
What are the eligibility criteria for the scholarships not sponsored by QS?
Please check each scholarship, as every scholarship has different criteria.
Can I apply for more than one scholarship?
Yes, you can apply for as many scholarships as you wish. Just make sure that you meet the eligibility criteria and follow the application process for each.
How can I apply for a scholarship?
Head to our QS Scholarship platform to find a list of available scholarships. Each one will have details of the application process, check them carefully as the steps might differ.
Who evaluates my application and who will announce the winner?
Scholarships by institutions are managed by the school, university or collage offering the scholarship and the winner will also be announced by them. QS scholarships and QS WM Scholarships are managed by us here at QS and we’ll announce the winner.
Our QS WM Scholarships all have different deadlines, but follow a similar process:
Two weeks after the scholarship deadline
The QS Scholarship Selection Committee aims to finish evaluating the applications and select the shortlisted candidates two weeks after the deadline. This is when we email the shortlisted candidates and ask them to send us information about the school they have been admitted to, the program they`ll be studying, the program start date, their tuition fee amount and info on any other scholarships won plus check they’ve attended one of our events (if required).
Three weeks after the deadline
We then send the eligible shortlisted applications to the QS WM Scholarship decision makers. We ask them to make a final decision by the end of the month following the deadline.
Four to five weeks after the deadline
We contact the winner(s) selected and ask them to:
Fill out and sign a winner agreement form
Send us the admissions letter from the school
Send the school's account details on a letter-headed document
Send any info that needs to be mentioned on the payment (eg. student ID, name)
Send along a picture of themselves plus their social media
We also put them in touch with our writers and social media team, who will publish an interview on our websites and social channels. Once we have all the documents from the selected winner, we inform the applicants who didn't win about the status of their application.
Five to six weeks after the deadline
We announce the winners and publish their interviews.
Eligibility Criteria
What are the eligibility criteria for the QS Scholarships?
You are eligible to apply if you start your studies in the next academic year (e.g. if you start your studies in the 2021/2022 academic year you can apply for scholarships with a deadline in 2021).
You must have an offer or a conditional offer from the school by the scholarship deadline and you must have accepted the offer by the time we announce the winner in the following month.
You must attend a QS event to be eligible to apply for a QS Scholarship, except for the QS Undergraduate Scholarship, where the requirement is that you`re admitted to a school that features on any of our QS Rankings.
You must submit the relevant essay.
You must study at the required level.
The award must go towards your tuition fee.
Am I eligible to apply to the QS WM Scholarship if I don’t need to pay a tuition fee?
The scholarship can only go towards your tuition fee, so unfortunately you won't be awarded in this case.
Am I eligible to apply to the QS WM Scholarship if my tuition fee is less than the scholarship amount?
Yes, but please note that the Scholarships Committee will prioritize candidates who are in greater need of financial support and can use up the whole amount of the scholarship.
Am I eligible to apply to the QS WM Scholarship if I already started my first year of study?
Unfortunately, no. QS WM Scholarships are offered to candidates who are about to start their first year of study at the appropriate level.
Can I apply to the QS WM Scholarships before I attend a QS event?
Yes, you need to attend a QS event by the time we select a winner (about 4 weeks after the scholarship deadline).
Am I eligible to apply to the QS WM Scholarships if I attended a QS event in the past?
Yes, you are eligible to apply. .
Is it a problem if I used a different email address to attend a QS event and apply for a scholarship?
No, it's not a problem. If possible, please mention this in your application.
I submitted the wrong essay. How can I withdraw it and submit the correct essay?
The website offers you the possibility to change your essay. The evaluation process starts after the deadline, so you`re free to change your essay any time before that.
The award and the results of the QS WM Scholarships
Can I use a QS WM Scholarship to cover living costs, books, or accommodation?
Unfortunately, no. The scholarship must go towards your tuition fees.
Can you tell me why I didn't win a QS WM Scholarship and give advice on how I can improve my application?
Unfortunately, due to the huge number of applications and the number of queries we receive from applicants, the team doesn't have the capacity to give individual feedback on the applications received. Please take a look at our essay checklist to help with your future applications.
Will I receive the QS WM Scholarships to my personal bank account?
No, we transfer the money directly to the school where you have been admitted to. You won't actually see or receive the money, but you`ll have to pay less for your tuition fee from your own pocket.
When do you proceed with the QS WM Scholarships payment?
We aim to make the payment to the school on the winner`s behalf as soon as possible. It mainly depends how fast we received the supporting documents from the winner.
When will the winner of the QS WM Scholarships be announced?
We email all the applicants with the status of their application four to five weeks after the deadline and aim to announce a winner about five weeks after the deadline.
