Why Higher Education Is Still Necessary in Times of Change
By Linda M
Updated May 21, 2020 Updated May 21, 2020The coronavirus pandemic is changing the way people live, work and study. Universities across the globe have had to quickly move all of their operations online and find new ways to keep students engaged and supported throughout this crisis.
Bocconi University, located in the Italian region most affected by Covid-19, is one of them.
The 120-year-old university has long been known as a powerhouse for social sciences and business studies, scoring highly in our MBA rankings for its one-year full-time MBA.
“The virus is showing the impact of social sciences on everybody’s lives. The impact of economics, the impact of legal problems, the impacts of data,” Bocconi Rector Gianmario Verona told our CEO Nunzio Quacquarelli.
Bocconi has successfully moved all activities online in just one week, from its 427 semester courses to its student support portals, which Rector Verona believes shows just how adaptable higher education is to global crises and times of uncertainty.
He said: “It’s important that [students] think of innovation as a long-term investment. They should not focus too much on what’s going on because a masters, an MBA and a bachelors are all long-term investments. [Students] should focus on opportunities.”
Bocconi is now accepting online GRE and GMAT scores in the application. In the next few months, Rector Verona and his team will work on implementing a two-track system where students from anywhere in the world will be able to attend Bocconi – whether they’re based in Milan or not.
