The MSc Health Psychology is a research-focused postgraduate programme that provides students with a comprehensive understanding of health psychology theories, methods, and current research.
Students will explore a range of advanced research methods and statistical approaches while developing the competencies required to design and conduct an independent research project in health psychology. It provides students with an in-depth understanding of health psychology theories, methods, and research, as typically required for Stage 1 training in Health Psychology.
The programme is supported by a strong academic team with active research interests and expertise in the field. It benefits from the University of Chichester’s dynamic research environment, particularly through its links with the POWER Centre (Performance, Occupation, and Wellbeing Research).
On successful completion, students will be eligible to progress to Stage 2 doctoral-level training and pursue professional or academic careers related to health psychology.
What will the student experience? Students enrolled in the MSc Health Psychology programme will experience a rich and immersive academic journey that blends theoretical knowledge with applied practice in a global urban setting. They will:
• Learn from experienced, well-equipped tutors, who bring real-world expertise and academic excellence into the classroom.
• Study in modern classrooms equipped with digital presentation tools, recording devices, and collaborative spaces designed to support dynamic learning.
• Work on an independent dissertation, allowing them to explore a specific area of interest in depth, guided by expert academic supervision.
• Collaborate in an active learning environment, participating in seminars, discussions, and case studies that encourage critical thinking and knowledge exchange.
• Access Berlin’s local healthcare context, allowing students to understand health systems, services, and health promotion efforts from a European and global perspective.
• Enhance personal and professional growth by engaging with Berlin’s fast-paced research ecosystem, attending guest lectures, seminars, and cross-disciplinary events.
• Improve language and intercultural skills, as students are immersed in an international learning environment and offered the opportunity to learn or enhance German language proficiency.
• Utilise private study areas and student lounges, supporting both individual focus and collaborative work within a supportive academic community.
This programme not only deepens subject expertise in health psychology but also equips students with transferable skills to thrive in careers across healthcare, research, education, and public policy both in Germany and internationally.
Who should take this programme?
The MSc Health Psychology programme is ideal for:
• Applicants with a background in psychology who have completed undergraduate studies and are ready to pursue advanced academic and applied training.
• Professionals working in healthcare, social work, public health, or behavioural research who aim to integrate psychological perspectives into their practice.
• Individuals passionate about understanding the psychological mechanisms that influence health behaviour, coping, treatment adherence, and health promotion.
This programme is well suited to those interested in evidence-based research, applied psychology, and careers that support physical and mental health at both individual and community levels.
Why study this course?
Health Psychology stands as a unique and specialised field within psychology, distinct from but complementary to behavioural medicine and public health. Studying MSc Health Psychology offers several benefits:
• Specialist knowledge: Gain a deep and critical understanding of the psychological processes related to health, illness, and well-being.
• Research competency: Develop robust skills in scientific research, from design and data collection to analysis and interpretation.
• Career preparation: The course supports diverse career pathways, including roles in health consultancy, healthcare organisations, public health policy, academic research, and applied psychology.
• Academic progression: The degree provides a solid foundation for further postgraduate training, including doctoral research (PhD) in health psychology or related fields.
• Real-world impact: Be equipped to contribute to behaviour change interventions, health communication strategies, and patient support programmes in multidisciplinary environments.
The course is also embedded within a wider health psychology research community, ensuring students are engaged with cutting-edge developments and global perspectives in the field.
