The first study year is an introduction to the multifaceted career of
music teacher, such as primary edu ation, secondary education and other
fields of music education. The study programme is based on three pillars: teaching, performing and theory, offering subjects such as
music theory, ear-training, music history, educational subjects,
methodology, singing lessons, lessons on your instrument, lessons in
guitar and piano accompaniment and conducting.
During their
studies, students are exposed to a variety of musical styles in all
their subjects - popular music, jazz, classical music and world music.
Given the multicultural character of education currently given in the
Netherlands, world music is a substantial component of nearly all
subjects. Workshops and ensembles focusing on music from Latin America,
Africa and Asia are offered.

Admission Requirements
In order to be admitted to the bachelor programme at the Conservatorium
van Amsterdam, candidates should possess a graduation certificate from
an institution of secondary education a recognised equivalent of a Dutch
VWO or HAVO certificate at the start of their study.
In order to be admitted to the programme, you have to pass the entrance exam.
In addition to the theory entrance examination during which the
student's musical ear and knowledge of general music theory are tested,
he/she will also be required to take a so-called 'practical' entrance
examination.
The practical entrance examination takes place in a
group within which each student will demonstrate their musical abilities
and will collectively perform a task with the other candidates. The
student's ability to communicate with the group, in addition to their
musical proficiency, will be taken into consideration.
Selecting the right scholarship can be a daunting process. With countless options available, students often find themselves overwhelmed and confused. The decision can be especially stressful for those facing financial constraints or pursuing specific academic or career goals.
