The world is witnessing a revolution in IT, and Big Data is very much central to this. This field will generate, collect, store, and can process data at phenomenally higher rates than is sustainable even by the conventional exponential growth in IT. This program in EPFL offers a comprehensive education, from the foundations to implementation, from algorithms to database architecture, and from information theory to machine learning. The Master program is offered by the School of Computer and Communication Sciences in collaboration with the School of Basic Sciences (Mathematics) and the School of Engineering (Electrical Engineering). The field of data science extracts knowledge by analysis of large, noisy, complex, and often heterogeneous data. It is a new research paradigm and the root of innovative applications in all sectors of the economy.
