Eskisehir Technical University

Eskişehir Technical University was established by separating some faculties from Anadolu University in 2018.Although it is like a new university by the date of establishment, it has a long history of more than 50 years.There is an international airport run by the university at the campus, with 5 faculties, 2 vocational schools, and3 institutes serving research and education facilities. More than 700 hundred academic staff are available forresearch and education. In addition, there are around 13 thousand students: 450 of them are international students and 3000 of them are graduate students.The vision of the university is to be the pioneer of change and transformation by creating value. Some of the university policies related to research are (i) developing and implementing an interactive, output and impact-oriented research management ecosystem that includesall components of the research process and (ii) conducting research with a focus on business andinternational cooperation and producing value-creating research outputs. Eskişehir Technical University hasone of the wealthiest research facilities in Turkey and opens these facilities to internal and external usersthrough Estekiz platform. Moreover, some of the facilities have unique equipment. Therefore, the mainresearch aim of Eskişehir Technical Universityis activating research elements and producing value-creatingresearch outputs through developing output and impact-oriented collaboration networks and increasing thenumber and budget of external projects catalyzed by internal project supports. The research budget of theuniversity is around 2 million euros/year. Internal projects cover all the research stakeholders from highschool/undergraduate/graduate/postgraduate students to alumni and retired academic staff. In addition, morethan 20 spinoff companies are owned by university academics. They share certain percentage of their incometo the university to use the university facilities to carry out their research at the university facilities. Thefollowing topics are the leading research subjects at EsTU: Railway Systems, Aircraft Components, Ceramicand Composites, Solid State Physics, Particle and Nuclear Physics, Energy Storage and Hydrogen and FuelCells. With the great efforts spent over the last couple of years to increase external projects' number andbudget, EsTU became one of the most successful universities for TUBITAK research projects (like 2209undergraduate student projects, 2244 Industrial Ph.D. programs and 1001 main research projects) amongTurkish universities. Eskişehir Technical University is also a partner of two of the 1004 coded centers ofexcellence support TUBİTAK projects. From now on, the research efforts will be directed towards internationalprojects. On the other hand, as it is a new university, EsTU is not shown in the world university rankings sincethe rankings are generally based on the last 5 to 7 years documentations. However, Eskişehir TechnicalUniversity was 19th on the Entrepreneurial and Innovative University Ranking Index among Turkish Universities. However, the qualitative and quantitative research outputs are increasing year by year. Accordingto survey on SciVal, percentage of Q1 to Q3 journal quartile with a 97.7 % in 2021, Eskişehir TechnicalUniversity is among the best universities in the World.
