The EUI’s PhD in Political and Social Sciences is a four-year doctoral programme based in Florence, combining advanced training in political and social science with independent doctoral research. Researchers develop their projects within the Department of Political and Social Sciences, supported by individual supervision, research seminars and a broad programme of academic activities.
Research in the Department brings together comparative politics, international relations, political theory and sociology, with research projects addressing areas such as political institutions, political behaviour, European politics, migration, inequality, political economy, conflict and international governance. Researchers can also draw on the Department’s interdisciplinary research community and methodological expertise.
Doctoral researchers can access a range of EUI and national fellowship schemes. Funding opportunities and eligibility requirements vary according to nationality and the specific fellowship programme.
The programme forms part of the EUI’s wider interdisciplinary research environment, with researchers engaging with faculty, visiting scholars and colleagues across the Institute through seminars, workshops and research projects.
