The Master of Physical Therapy program at Western University, is dedicated to being internationally recognized for excellence, leadership and innovation in Physical Therapy education, practice and research through dedicated clinical, academic, research and professional partnerships. the programs prepares students to seek licensure to practice physiotherapy in Canada in a wide range of practice settings.
The Master of Physical Therapy degree is awarded upon successful completion of a two-year curriculum which includes 60 weeks of academic learning and 30 weeks of clinical experiential learning. The program prepares students seek licensure to practice physiotherapy in Canada in a wide range of practice settings, and across the broad and diverse roles of the profession.
The Western MPT program generates learning environments that foster dynamic educational interactions, built on a base of theory, practice and professional foundations of physical therapy. The theoretical foundations of the program are translated into practice through six educational principals; critical appraisal, professional competencies, adaptable and social learning environments contextualized to practice and critical reflection. The instructional pedagogy is experimental case-based learning supported by a blended learning environment. The program stives to generate collaborative learning environments, encouraging learners to reflect on practice and examine their own knowledge, values and beliefs to foster the critical thinking skills necessary for autonomous healthcare practice and life-long learning.
Signature pedagogy of the MPT program is a student-centered model of inquiry-based learning. it supports learners to acquire knowledge both independently and collaboratively through engaging with a learning team. Application of knowledge and advanced analysis of authentic clinical cases fosters the development of essential professional competencies. Cases are carried into practical laboratory sessions, facilitating case inquiry and experiential learning environment.
