This course will provide you with a solid technical basis in the key areas of geotechnics through a balanced degree programme which integrates core engineering science and recent research findings with practical applications.

You will gain the skills to apply emerging machine learning and optimisation methods to solve complex geotechnical engineering applications and aid decision-making in stakeholder environments.
You'll gain first-hand experience of experimental soil mechanics working in modern, purpose-built laboratories, through a mixture of theoretical and practical learning.
This degree will also enable you to forge strong links with industry and enhance your fieldwork skills on a series of trips to areas of geological and geotechnical interest in the UK and southern Europe.
Further develop your understanding on road and rail transport in industrialised countries. You'll also consider contexts in less industrialised countries where transport problems persist. This course will equip you for further PhD research in this specialist area.
This course is part of the geotechnics cluster of courses at Imperial College London. These streams share approximately 80% of the curriculum, while the remaining 20% allows specialisation in the areas of advanced:

Admission Requirements
Students must have a background in Mathematics including algebra and multivariate calculus.
Applicants who do not meet the academic requirements listed but who have substantial relevant industry experience may exceptionally be admitted following completion of a ‘Special Qualifying Exam’ (SQE).
