About International School of Management (ISM)

The International School of Management (ISM) ranks among Germany’s leading private business schools. Founded in 1990, the ISM has seven campuses in Dortmund, Frankfurt am Main, Munich, Hamburg, Cologne, Stuttgart and Berlin and is home to over 3850 students.

Internationality, practical orientation and a personal learning atmosphere are just as much a part of ISM's success factors as the teaching of professional skills and the intensive training of soft skills. This includes not only exciting practical projects and internships, but also lecturers who come from the business world.

These success factors are reflected in all of ISM's Bachelor, Master and MBA programs. The German university is state-accreddited unlimitedly and all study programs bear the seal of quality of the German Accreditation Council and the FIBAA. The quality of the education is confirmed by HR managers, ISM students and alumni and the presence in numerous rankings where ISM consistently occupies top positions since many years.

Thanks to a tutor to student ratio of 1:7 and by learning in small groups, students can get all their questions answered, also focus on their personal development goals and are prepared for a successful international career.

Students of 84 nationalities are representated at the ISM, with over 30 percent international student enrollments. Part of the regular university life at ISM are also the integrated semesters abroad at one of 190 international partner universities as well as intensive language trainings (English, German, Spanish, Italian or French).

Helping International Students with their Visa Application

If you are not a citizen of the EU/EEA/EFTA or a citizen of a country for which students can obtain their necessary residence permit for study purposes after their arrival, you must apply for a student visa before your arrival to Germany. Please inform yourself about the visa application procedure and the documents needed well in advance. The international officers of the ISM can help with this process.

Language Center

Language teaching through the language centers is an important part of ISM courses. With the languages English, Spanish, French, Italian and German, we strengthen the international focus as well as the intercultural exchange within the study programs.

Soft skills like presentation abilities and negotiation techniques are also taught, thereby enabling students to give presentations on business topics in English or debate effectively in the foreign language. Since the teaching staff are all native speakers, speak English with different dialects, students are prepared to face a multilingual and multicultural world.

Library

If you’re looking for a quiet working environment, you can use the library's reading room and study areas. The Dortmund Campus also offers a magazine reading room and a group study area. Each library is stocked with a wide-range of business literature as well as the latest study and research findings. Around 90 academic magazines and business periodicals are available. The library also subscribes to a number of daily and weekly newspapers. A comprehensive range of online media rounds off the library resources. You can use two online databases to conduct full-text research in German and English magazines.

The library also supports students who require advice on their academic papers or help in researching and correcting them, and sees to it that students have access to the literature they need. Simply contact the library staff at any time to make an individual appointment.

Canteen service

Each ISM campus has a small canteen providing fresh food and drinks for students, university staff as well as guests.

Student life

Many international students study at ISM in Germany at the moment and ca. 30% of our students come from abroad. ISM offers a wide range of study programs with a business orientation, high educational quality, individual support, semesters abroad, double degrees and a direct link to practice. The ISM locations are situated in the main cultural and economic centers of Germany and offer you, in addition to a strong economy, a variety of sports, cultural and leisure opportunities. Studying in Germany opens up attractive opportunities, career and personal development-wise.

Student visa for Germany

Non-EU students and students from countries other than the USA, Australia, Israel, Japan, Canada, New Zealand and South Korea who would like to study in Germany need an appropriate visa for entry. You need to apply for your student visa at the responsible German embassy or consulate in your home country. Please note: The entry with a tourist or visitor visa is not sufficient for study purposes.

The visa application has to state explicitly the reason for your stay in Germany (e.g. language course, studies, etc.). In particular the following documents need to be attached to the visa application: Certification of acceptance of the ISM and Proof of sufficient financial funds (for example with the help of the document “Verpflichtungserklaerung” which you get from the German embassy if you have a person living in Germany). For further information please contact the ISM international office or the respective German consular mission abroad.

Language courses

Foreign students can take part in a 3-week intensive German course prior to semester start at ISM (from €480). The course will take place from Monday to Friday with 90 teaching units and will grant you 6 ECTS for successful passing of the course. There will be a course for beginners and - if there are enough interested students - we will also offer a language course for advanced learners. In addition, we will also try to offer three different language courses during the semester for free with 3 ECTS: Beginners + Intermediate + Advanced Business presentations.
