Izmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH), Izmir, Türkiye
Programme overview
Main Subject
Physics and Astronomy
Degree
PhD
Study Level
PHD
Study Mode
On Campus
The aim of the graduate program in the Department of Physics is to raise students as scientists who can develop and contribute to an original and a creative work in their research fields independently. The graduate program emphasizes research both in experimental and theoretical physics in various fields. The department’s current research focuses on the studies of condensed matter physics in topics such as condensed matter theory, solar cells, high temperature superconductors, low temperature physics, nanoscience and nanoelectronics, optoelectronic devices, lasers, photonics, and spintronics, statistical physics, material science, semiconductor physics, computational physics; and the study of high energy physics in topics such as little Higgs model, extra dimensions, standard model and its extensions, and non-commutative geometry. Students graduated from IZTECH can pursue their career both in academia and in industry and also are able to find jobs at top ranked research institutions world-wide.
Prospective students who would like to pursue their graduate education at IZTECH are able to utilize from the research laboratories consisting of Carbon Nanostructures Laboratory, Quantum Device Laboratory, Nanophotonics and Quantum Optics Laboratory, Computational Research Laboratory, Electrical and Dielectrical Characterization Laboratory, Applications of Nanolitography Laboratory, Spintronics Materials Laboratory, Superconducting Electronics Laboratory, Thin Film Laboratory and Thin Film Characterization Laboratory, and Optical Characterization Laboratory depending on their research interest.
The Physics Department welcomes MSc. and PhD. candidates of all nationalities. The application to the department can be done twice a year for the Fall and Spring semesters upon sending a filled-in form, official transcripts, scientific proficiency test scores, i.e. ALES, English proficiency test scores, and two letters of recommendation. Successful applicants are evaluated based on their academic scores, references and their motivation of pursuing graduate research. Research assistantships are provided for individual faculty members through their research projects. In addition, Turkish citizens can be funded through a research assistantship from the Turkish government.
