insufficient fields of the country. Additionally, many English teachers need to further their study in order to
meet the demand of research in applied linguistics and develop their potential for teaching and curriculum
development. They are also required to manage and analyze educational policy in their institutions. Apart
from this, at present there are many foreign teachers who hold master degrees in teaching, and they need
to further their study to upgrade their qualifications. The School of Liberal Arts, therefore, has established
a doctoral degree in applied linguistics (International Programme) since there are not many institutes where
the Doctor of Philosophy Programme in Applied Linguistics is offered.
