The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Tiruchirappalli, established in 1964 as the Regional Engineering College (REC) Tiruchirappalli, was founded through a collaboration between the

Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu under the affiliation of the University of Madras. In 2003, the institute was granted deemed university status with the approval of the University Grants Commission (UGC), the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and the Government of India. In the same year, it was designated as a National Institute of

Technology (NIT), joining the esteemed group of 31 NITs across the country. Recognized as an Institute of National Importance under the National Institutes of Technology, Science Education
