Northern Border University (NBU) is a public university located in the Northern Border Region of Saudi Arabia, home to a large number of archaeological and historical sites dating back to pre-Islamic times. The Northern Border Region lies in the farthest north of the Kingdom, bordering both Iraq and Jordan, which is one of the important passages of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the northern part.  The region is characterized by plenty of pasturelands and became an economic pillar of the country after the discovery of different minerals like phosphates in large amounts in Turaif and Hazam al-Jalamid. The discovery has contributed to the launching of King Abdullah's project of upgrading Wa'd ash-Shamal City for Mineral Industries which will become a major development tributary. Thus, the Northern Border Region will, therefore, have its share of development and prosperity.

NBU was founded by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, during his historic visit to the Northern Border Region in 2007 which is added to the Higher Education System as number 20 in the Kingdom. The university is one of the distinguished and promising universities which has taken giant strides toward upgrading the educational process in a very short time of its life. The university has four campuses spread across the Northern Border Region of Saudi Arabia. Its main campus is located in Arar, the capital city of the Northern Border Region; whereas its branches are located in Rafha, Turaif, and Al-Uwayqilah. The teaching of university is split across sixteen (16) faculties, nine (9) of which are in Arar (Education and Arts, Business Administration, Science, Engineering, Medicine, Applied Medical Science, Home Economics, Nursing and Community), four (4) faculties in Rafha (Computing and Information Technology, Pharmacy, Science and Arts, Community), two (2) in Turaif (Science and Arts, Community) , and one (1) in Al-Uwayqilah (Science and Arts).  Currently, the university offers over 47 academic programs of study.  The university has contributed to the progress of education, society, and economy in the region.
