Leading Inspires Positive Change The most effective leaders share certain qualities: exceptional communication skills, a strategic outlook, strong ethical convictions, emotional intelligence, and a passion for their organizations. The particular way in which they lead, however, differs from one leader to the next. Norwich University’s Master of Science in Leadership program helps current and rising leaders from a broad range of professional settings hone their personal leadership styles and develop the specialized knowledge and skills needed to go beyond managing and inspire positive change within their organizations. Integrating leadership theory, analysis, and practice, our program curriculum provides students with a multidisciplinary framework for understanding their leadership skills as well as various opportunities to practice them. Students examine key concepts such as organizational behavior, human capital management, strategic communication, leading change, and emotional intelligence through case studies and workplace-based projects. Concentration options in organizational leadership, public sector/government/military leadership, human resources leadership, and leading change management consulting enable students to further tailor their studies to meet their professional goals and interests. Class discussions also serve as a dynamic forum for students and faculty to learn from each other’s work experiences. Throughout the leadership program, students create a Leadership Development Portfolio in which they reflect on the personal relevance of the lessons covered in each course and reflect on their personal leadership strengths, weaknesses, and goals. Faculty members regularly review students’ portfolios to provide individualized feedback on their progress and guidance on their career aspirations. Students also apply their learning in a cumulative capstone experience in their final course. A master's degree in leadership from Norwich can help you advance within your current workplace or help you gain the skills and confidence needed to pursue higher-level leadership positions through your ability to achieve results through people. Our leadership graduates include high ranking military officers and alumni in the public and private sectors who hold positions such as one-star general, senior director of strategy and global operations, chief executive officer, executive director, senior vice president, vice president, police chief, director of learning and leadership, corporate director, and more. Career Outcomes Graduates of the online Master of Science in Leadership program at Norwich University set a high standard for the University and one another. As a group they tend to be extremely successful, motivated, and achievement oriented-and that’s before they even log in to their first online class. The quality of our students not only impacts the experience in the classroom, but can also offer rewards after your degree is conferred. Penny Sather, a recent graduate, describes it in this way: "In the program, the concept of influencing skills through 'leading change' was immediately useful in facilitating strategic change throughout the business units I am responsible for. As a result of this program and my expanded leadership skills, I was able to take steps to influence the business units to align with the corporate direction."
