Overview

PUCMM is the first private university of the Dominican Republic, founded in 1962.

PUCMM is centrally located in both its botanical-garden-like campus at kilometer 1.5 of Duarte’s freeway in Santiago de los Caballeros and in its urban styled campus at Lincoln Ave. and Bolivar Street in Santo Domingo.

Campus in Santiago is an icon of the city.  It occupies 950,0002  meters and it is an ecological lung of the region and a beautiful garden –campus that invites to study and to investigate.  It was designed to preserve the topography and the original beauty of the landscape and, at the same time, to create an appropriate environment to the development of academic and spiritual life of the students, teachers and other members of the university.

PUCMM is best known for the excellence of its study programs, students’ services, and the resulting preparation of its graduates. In addition, its postgraduate programs, many of which offer dual degrees in conjunction with prestigious foreign universities, present various opportunities for research and academic pursuits.

The main language of teaching is Spanish. There are some courses taught through the Foreign Languages Department in English. However, due to the strength of our English program, many of our Spanish-taught courses are able to use various printed materials in English.

PUCMM has two campuses, one in the capital city of Santo Domingo and the other in the northern city of Santiago de los Caballeros. All facilities, as well as all academic faculties, are available at both campuses.

  • Health Sciences Faculty
  • Sciences and Engineering Faculty
  • Economic and Administrative Sciences Faculty
  • Social Sciences, Humanities, and Arts Faculty

Our Economic Assistance Department offers extensive programs of economic assistance to students of low resources who have demonstrated a good academic record. Additionally, students who participate in school activities, such as theatre, dance, music band, choir or any of the university sports team will receive a scholarship of 30% to 50% of the tuition cost.

Our main campus is equipped with a gym, two banks, ATMs, an Olympic-size pool, a football field, a running track, tennis courts, a baseball field, and a basketball court. In Santo Domingo, a recently constructed building accommodates the faculties of Health Sciences and Sciences and Engineering.  It is an intelligent building designed to save energy and to take care of the environment that counts with 39 labs that respond to ultimate technology.

At PUCMM, we avail our students with a large database of books and academic consulting material both in our website and through our Library System. Through our website, our students can directly access their academic status, details on their subjects, knowledge about their curriculum, check on their academic index, contact their teacher, interact with assignments, and other academic tools. There is also access to any tutorials programmed by their teachers outside of the class time.

We also offer academic writing support to our students, through our specialized writing and reading center dedicated to help students with these skills: The Center for the Excellence of the Research and Dissemination of Reading and Writing (CEDILE, as per its initials in Spanish) helps our students to understand and produce writing as a progressive, recursive process.

Our Academic Orientation Department offers our students a variety of academic and mental health programs. These programs provide psychological support to any student undergoing low academic performance or personal issues that may require onsite assistance or external referrals. In addition, a medical health clinic provides medical consultation, care, and medicine at any time a student may need this physical health assistance.

10% of our students are international. At PUCMM, we have more than 35 different nationalities represented.

Through the Students Dean’s Office, we have a variety of extracurricular activities, which include outdoor sports and the fine arts:

  • The Theater’s Group
  • The TUNA (our choral singing group)
  • Melody (the university’s music band)
  • The Dancing Group
  • The Sports Department (tennis team, volleyball team, swimming team, judo team, football team, baseball team, and basketball team)

Students live off campus. And for foreigners students, we have a program of placing foreign students, through our Student Mobility Department, with host families while studying at PUCMM.

According to statistics from the postgraduate department, 90% of our students find jobs between one to six months after their graduation.

All careers have a component of practical application, whereby the students can put into practice what they have learned in the classrooms. In cases, such as dental services through the Stomatology Department, students offer their services directly to the community, with patients from the public-at-large. Other projects, such as Restaurants put into operation by the Hotel Administration, Tourism and Gastronomy students, are featured once a year and are open to the public.

About the alumni network, the Graduate and Interns Office, which keeps track of all graduated students, their placed jobs, and information about their development in professional life, manage it. In addition, this department relates with the PUCMM’s Graduate Association, a group of outstanding graduate students who manage the relationship between graduates and the academy, organizing career meetings, job fairs, and information about professional development opportunities. Our graduate students are best known by the outstanding performance in their professional life.
