The Mechanical Engineering Department at SMU has a long tradition of offering an engineering education within an environment fostering creativity and innovation. It maintains small classes to provide strong mentoring as well as to foment academic excellence through cooperation and team work. Mechanical Engineering is a diverse, dynamic, and exciting field. In addition to meeting the Lyle School of Engineering degree requirements for an M.S. degree, candidates are required to satisfy the following requirements: the completion of 10 graduate-level courses (30 credit hours) or the completion of eight courses (24 credit hours) and a master’s thesis. This program takes advantage of the 44-credit hour Fast
Track MBA degree offered by Cox School and double-counts up to six credit hours
of MBA courses as electives in the 30-credit hour M.S. in Engineering degree
programs At the conclusion of the dual degree program, students obtain an M.S.
in the specific engineering degree and the MBA.
