About Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University)
Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth (SBV) is a Health Sciences, Deemed-to-be University, declared u/s 3 and listed u/s 12B of the UGC Act 1956. It has been accorded the Category 1 status by the UGC, is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council, (NAAC) with A++ grade and ranked within top 100 Rankings in NIRF since 2016. The practices and processes of SBV are also certified by the ISO 21001:2018. Recently SBV also achieved a THE Impact Ranking in the band 801-1000 and UI Green metric - 657 th Rank in the World’s most sustainable university (24th Rank in India) and SBV also achieved a Diamond Rating in QS I-Guage rating 2024.
SBV spreads over two campuses along the east coast of southern India. The main campus, 108 acres is located in the beach city of Puducherry and the off campus of 147 acres is located close to greater Chennai, in Chengalpattu district. Both campuses collectively house six constituent teaching units, such as the Mahatma Gandhi Medical College & Research Institute, Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, Kasturba Gandhi Nursing College, School of Pharmacy, School of Allied Health Sciences and School of Biological Sciences in the main campus and Shri Sathya Sai Medical College & Research Institute and Shri Sathya Sai College of Nursing in the off campus.
The tertiary care teaching hospitals in both the campuses are well-equipped with state-of-the art facilities and have been accredited by NABH. Alongside the eight Rural, Urban, and Peripheral Health Centres, both teaching hospitals cater to the healthcare needs of a large community as well as to the clinical training of the students.
Healthcare research, innovation and development is the core of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth. SIRO (Scientific and Industrial Research Organizations) status by DISR ( Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India) has been accorded to SBV. A dedicated research organization, MGM Advanced Research Institute (MGMARI) with Small Animal Research Facility opens up a wider vista for basic and translational research. Greater emphasis is being placed on Clinical trials, Healthcare related IPR activities and also in promotion of Start-ups and Technology transfers.
Totally 147 programs are offered by SBV in the Medical, Dental, Nursing, Pharmacy, Allied Health Sciences, Physiotherapy and Life Sciences disciplines, with more than 1600 seats.
Apart from UG and PG programs in 20 disciplines, the Medical discipline offer four super specialty programs such as DM/ MCH in Cardiology, Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery, Neurosurgery and in Urology.
25 fellowship programs that augment the professional skills are also available in the Medical discipline. One unique fellowship program is on Gender Reassignment Surgery, that reflects SBV’s focus on the upliftment of the transgender community.
PhD program is available in the faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy.
There are 18 BSC and 21 MSc programs in Allied Health Sciences with flexibility and Choice based Credit Systems (CBCS). These programs focus on skill development for employability and entrepreneurship. The five Masters programs in Nursing discipline, also includes the Nurses Practitioner in Critical Care. The Masters in Dentistry is available in all nine specialities.
SBV has first of its kind, innovative programs such as PG diploma and Masters in Yoga therapy and Music therapy, through Institute of Complementary medicine and Salutogenesis. Online PG Diploma and online Fellowship in Health professions education is offered through the Institute of Inter Health Profession Education. All these programs have also embedded flexibility and CBCS. School of biological Sciences offers UG and PG programs in Life Sciences. Unique feature is the offer of integrated PhD programs.
All programs are Competency-Based, so that the SBV graduate emerges as an adept 21 st century health professional. The teaching learning methods are student centered with focus on simulation based training. A high-tech Medical Simulation Center and Cadaveric simulation facilities are available in both the campuses.
Self-directed learning is promulgated through the Learning Management System, CANVAS and Moodle. The library facilities with e-resources, such as ProQuest, DelNet and National Digital Library and New Zealand Consortium are easily accessible by all students, anytime.
Both campuses are well-equipped to meet the curricular, extra-curricular and co-curricular activities of the students. Hostels and residential facilities, sports and cultural facilities and general amenities provide a ‘home-away- home’ ambience.
