In January 2024, St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru achieved the prestigious status of "Deemed to be University," marking a significant milestone in its continuous commitment to providing exceptional education. The University has a student body of over 8500 and offers 109 programmes across Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Ph.D. levels. The academic framework is organized into 11 Schools comprising 44 specialized Departments, covering various fields such as Humanities, Physical and Biological Sciences, Commerce and Management, Computer Science, Animation, Teacher Education Vocational Degree Programs, Engineering and Law. St Aloysius has an impressive heritage spanning 146 years. The institution attained Autonomous Status in 2007 and was subsequently recognized as an "Institution with Potential for Excellence" by the UGC in 2009. St Aloysius College has always strived for academic brilliance and received the esteemed "Institution with Star Status" by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, in 2016. The institution Laboratory of Applied Biology is renowned for its pioneering work in plant tissue culture. It publishes four research journals annually and actively fosters global academic partnerships through 39 international MoUs with universities across Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, the United States, Uruguay, El Salvador, the Philippines, Malaysia, and others. The campus houses world-class facilities, including the globally renowned St Aloysius Chapel known for its exquisite frescoes, a museum preserving regional artefacts, SARANG 107.8 FM community radio broadcasting in five local languages, and a 50-metre Olympic-size swimming pool.
