English majors strengthen their writing and critical thinking skills as they learn to appreciate the persuasive power and aesthetic pleasures of language. Our courses survey literature from the earliest works to the most recent, consider it within its social and cultural contexts, promote creative activities, and investigate the bases of writing and teaching. As seniors, all majors undertake significant research on topics of their own choosing.
