The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences offers nine ABET-accredited programs and provides students with opportunities to find work in the industry or proceed to graduate study in a variety of areas.
The Graduate School offers advanced degree programs in many fields leading to master’s and doctoral degrees.
The School of Health Professions offers baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral degrees in both clinical and nonclinical areas. It also offers noncredit certificate programs in EMT/paramedic, medical dosimetry, phlebotomy, radiation therapy and radiologic technology.
The School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences is a leader in marine, atmospheric and sustainability research; education; public service; and is SUNY’s designated center for the marine sciences.
The School of Professional Development offers graduate programs in education and human resource management and is the home of Stony Brook’s teacher certification programs.
The Renaissance School of Medicine consists of eight basic science and 17 clinical departments providing preclinical and clinical education of medical students including graduate, postgraduate and continuing education.
The School of Nursing offers degree programs leading to the Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and the PhD in Nursing.
The School of Social Welfare offers a full-time, upper-division undergraduate BSW program providing preparation for entry-level social work positions. An MSW program prepares graduates for advanced generalist social work practice. A dual-degree program in social work and law with Touro Law Center is available.
Research and development: Nearby Brookhaven National Laboratory, which Stony Brook has the responsibility of co-managing, offers students opportunities to work with scientists making discoveries in physics, photon sciences and nanomaterials, climate change and other critical areas.
Our Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology and two state-designated Centers for Advanced Technology —in diagnostic tools and sensor systems and in biotechnology – facilitate partnerships between New York State industry and university research. Our Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center is a partnership of academic institutions, research institutions, energy providers and industrial corporations focusing on innovative energy research, education and technology deployment.
Economic impact: The entrepreneurial energy and economic strength of the university bring a combined benefit of $8.93 billion to the economy of Long Island. Through its high-technology incubators, the university has promoted the launch of more than 270 companies since 2016. The university is the largest single-site employer on Long Island, with more than 16,000 full- and part-time employees.
Arts and athletics: Stony Brook’s Staller Center for the Arts offers a rich program of theater, dance, classical music and popular entertainment throughout the year. Each summer, the Stony Brook Film Festival brings leading and emerging independent filmmakers and fans to campus.
