Our proximity to New York City’s world-renowned museums and galleries offers extensive opportunities for research, internships, and professional networking. Under the visionary leadership of Lawrence Alloway, the Program in Art History & Criticism was one of the first programs in the world to support graduate level study of modern and contemporary art, and we pride ourselves on remaining open to the latest interdisciplinary methodologies. We are a small, selective, close-knit program whose comparative and interdisciplinary orientation is well served by the resources of a large research university. Students have the option of completing an interdisciplinary Graduate Certificate to compliment their degree, in areas that include: Media, Art, Culture, and Technology; Art and Philosophy; Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies; Writing and Rhetoric. They are able to take courses at Columbia, NYU, CUNY and Princeton through the New York Inter-University Doctoral Consortium, and have ample opportunities for curatorial theory and practice in conjunction with the University’s regular exhibitions at the Zuccaire, Alloway, and Simons Center art galleries.Read less
