The Software Engineering program at Al-Saeed College of Engineering and Information Technology, Taiz University, was established in 2003. It focuses on teaching the knowledge and skills required to carry out the various stages of software development as an engineering process. These stages include requirements identification and documentation, design, programming, testing, maintenance, and software project management.

The demand for software engineers continues to grow—not only due to the rapid advancement and widespread use of computing and information technologies in modern times, and the increasing need for software in all aspects of life including education, healthcare, industry, commerce, and business—but also because graduates of this program are equipped with the competencies needed for every phase of the software development lifecycle. In addition to their programming abilities—shared with peers from other IT disciplines—they possess specialized skills crucial for building complex, high-quality, and cost-effective software systems.

In light of these facts, the Software Engineering Department is committed to regularly updating its curriculum and providing an educational environment that ensures the achievement of the intended learning outcomes.

Students in this program complete 47 courses over four years and eight academic semesters, totaling 133 accredited credit hours. These hours are distributed as follows: 13 university requirement hours, 27 college requirement hours, and 93 major requirement hours (including 6 elective hours).

Program Mission:

To provide high-quality educational services in accordance with academic accreditation and quality standards, equipping students with scientific and professional knowledge in the field of Software Engineering to meet the needs of society and the local and regional labor markets.
