The Arid Land Research Center was graced by the visit of The Ambassador of the Republic of El Salvador to Japan, Ms. Martha Lidia Zelayandia, on September 2, 2015. Mr. Tsunekawa, the director of the Center, welcomed the Ambassador and then provided her with an overview of the Center and told her of the importance of arid land research, particularly given that the dry season in her country, El Salvador, is growing longer. The Ambassador listened with interest as Mr. Tsunekawa explained that the Faculty of Agriculture Fungus/Mushroom Resource and Research Center has been engaged in joint research with El Salvador on the variety of mushrooms. The Ambassador was then taken on a tour of the Arid Land Dome and mini-museum by Professor Tsujimoto during which she eagerly asked questions and displayed an interest in Jatropha curcas and sand from various parts of the world collected in studies. The Ambassador felt that her visit to the Arid Land Research Center was very meaningful.
