    UIS has 45 undergraduate programmes in the following faculties:

    The usual undergraduate programme requirements are:

    Tuition for national and international students at UIS is defined based on the socio-economic condition of the student and the supporting family.

    All undergraduate programme fees range from US$30 to US$2000 per semester for  2021.

    Students in need are provided with assistance for food, residences or administrative assistantships.

    International students can apply for undergraduate courses via this link.

    The UIS has 10 campuses and a total of 94 buildings.

    The main campus in Bucaramanga city offers physicochemical engineering , physicomechanical engineering , basic sciences and human sciences , as well as university welfare, the Institute of Regional Projection and Distance Education, Central Library, administrative offices, auditoriums, workshops, laboratories, museums, stadium, sports fields and the coliseum.

    The health faculty is located next to Hospital Universitario De Santander.

    UIS’s Bucarica campus in the centre of the city offers UIS Broadcasters, the Honorary Consulate of Brazil in Bucaramanga, the Legal Office and Conciliation Centre, and university´s conference rooms and auditoriums.

    The Guatiguará Campus - Guatiguará Technological Park, located in Piedecuesta. It houses the university's research centre with 39 laboratories and crops for agricultural and livestock programmes. There are also two buildings for business management in science and technology for research shared between the university, enterprise and state.

    Barbosa, Barrancabermeja, Socorro and Malaga campuses offer programmes in physicochemical engineering and physicomechanical engineering, as well as distance education and a few undergraduate programmes.

    UIS offers student welfare facilities:

    There are also auditoriums, sports fields, study areas, and library reading rooms.

    UIS’s university park offers architecture, gardens and cultural activities open to the public. On Sundays there is the “Vecinos y Amigos” (neighbours and friends) programme which hopes to promote social interaction between academia and the community.

    UIS’s mobility programmes attract visiting students from Mexico, Chile, Brazil, France, United States, Germany, Argentina, Spain and Ecuador. On average, there are 50 visiting students annually in face-to-face programmes and at least 40 foreigners virtually.

    Students can participate in sports at recreational, educational, and competitive levels in football, rugby, swimming, volleyball, basketball, tennis, etc. There are also cultural groups including choir, dance, theatre, orchestra and more. Find out more here.

    The university welfare division also carries out yoga, meditation, self-care workshops, dances, massages, and more.

    The university also organises lectures, fairs, events, concerts, indigenous festivities, international days, dinners, and competitions to facilitate interaction.

    UIS offers student residences for low-income students, and other students receive financial support through g rants to cover housing costs during their academic programmes.

    There are plenty of housing options walking distance from the campus or via public transport.

    Undergraduate admission is determined by the national admission exam for entrance to higher education (SABER), which is nationwide twice a year (typically March and September).

    Graduate admission takes into account:

    • Academic records for previous undergraduate or graduate programmes
    • Recommendation letters by previous professors or bosses
    • Entrance examinations
    • Interviews

     

    Each programme has specific entry requirements.

    If you aren’t a native Spanish speaker, a level B2 in the European Common Framework is required.

    As a public institution, UIS’s tuition costs are low.

    According to the Labour Observatory for Education’s (of 738 UIS graduates in 2020) “Moment 0” survey, 73 percent of UIS graduates are employed less than 5 months after graduation, and 92 percent are employed less than one year after graduation.
