The National University of Itapúa (UNI) is a Paraguayan public university, created by Law No. 1009 of December 3, 1996, it is located in the city of Encarnación, capital of the department of Itapúa, being the third largest city in the country, with a population of approximately 130,000 people. The city stands out for being a melting pot of races, since it has people from different cultures such as Russian, Ukrainian, Chinese, Japanese, Brazilian, Argentine, Venezuelan, Chilean, Bolivian, among many more. In addition to having several tourist spots in the Department, such as the ruins of Jesús and Trinidad, the Dunes and the Ruins of San Cosme and Damián, the beaches of San José, Mboi Ca`e, Pacú Cua, the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Itacuá, the traditional annual carnival incarnation, which is generally celebrated in late January and mid-February, attracting more than 100,000 people to the city on festive dates, and many other aspects that have boosted local tourism.
The UNI focuses on the teaching of subjects in the areas of Engineering, Medicine, Business, Sciences, Technologies, Environmental Studies, Food, Humanities, Social Sciences, Agricultural and Forest Sciences, Linguistics.
It has 7 Faculties and 1 Postgraduate School, being the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Sciences and Technology, Faculty of Legal Sciences, Faculty of Humanities, Sciences Guaraní Social and Culture.
In addition to having 7 university headquarters, being: the Encarnación Central Campus, Natalio Branch, Coronel Bogado Branch, María Auxiliadora Branch, General Artigas Branch, San Pedro del Paraná Branch, Mayor Otaño Branch.
By the end of the year 2021, UNI has 44 undergraduate degrees and 26 postgraduate programs authorized by CONES at headquarters and subsidiaries, 21 undergraduate programs and 11 postgraduate programs accredited by ANEAES, the entity that complies with the academic rigor of Paraguay. , plus 1 career accredited by ARCUSUR and finally the 4.5 Institutional Self-Assessment qualification, certifications recently issued by this entity of the Paraguayan State.
Currently the student population is: 3,676 undergraduate and graduate students, 20 students with different abilities, 48 foreign students, 462 interns, 996 teachers, 422 civil servants.
UNI has National and International Scholarship Programs, being the institution's own scholarships called economic, sports, for cultural and intellectual merits, provision of services, other international scholarships: Erasmus Mundus, Becal, AUGM, Zicosur, Marca.
