The driving philosophy in our program is that we not only want our students to graduate from U.C., but we want them to succeed in whatever graduate program or field of study they choose. With that philosophy in mind, we have designed a curriculum to complement the Liberal Learning Outcomes of the University and provide a knowledge base and critical thinking skills needed to meet the goals of our graduates. Each student can tailor their electives to match their interests. Graduates of our Pre-professional Program will be ready to take their entrance exams and enter into a graduate or professional school. Graduates from the General Biology Program can find a career in Biology or continue their education should they choose. CURRICULUM: The general Biology major is designed for students whose future goals do not foresee the need for additional chemistry, or medical related electives. This includes students who plan on careers in environmental science, graduate school in biology related areas or biological consulting fields. This program leads to a B.S. in Biology. LIBERAL LEARNING OUTCOMES (LLOS): Six outcomes are tightly woven into every major at UC, and each student must repeatedly demonstrate high levels of competency in each area. Citizenship, Communication, Creativity, Critical Thinking, Ethical Practice, Inquiry. Pre-professional students will graduate with a B.S. Degree in Biology. The pre-professional track offers learning experiences in courses such as human anatomy and physiology, embryology, microbiology, immunology, cell and molecular biology, and pathophysiology.
