The department started functioning in 1971 under the faculty of commerce, as per the decision of the 23rd syndicate meeting of Chittagong University in 1970. It has been regarded as the vital supplier of accounting graduates to both public and private sector of Bangladesh. These graduates have been providing invaluable service to various areas of money market, capital market, financial management, government accounting, tax accounting, cost accounting, auditing etc. They can also get professional degrees such as CA, CMA, CPA etc. afterwards. The department has a MOU with The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh under which the students are enjoying privileges to pursue Chartered Accountancy.
