The educational goals of the Master of Science and Mechanical Engineering program at the University of Delaware are to impart students with advanced analytical and technical knowledge in the core areas of mechanical engineering while also providing specialized knowledge in new and emerging areas, enabling them to lead successful careers in industry, pursue advanced degrees, and to contribute to the profession and society at large.
Graduates of the Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering program will be able to:
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply graduate-level mathematics to the solution of engineering problems in the general areas of solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, dynamics, and heat transfer.
  • Demonstrate the ability to conduct, present and defend graduate-level research including literature review, motivation, methodology utilized, results, unique contributions, and conclusions generated (thesis track).
  • Contribute to engineering knowledge, the profession, and the community through technology development, research, or service in areas relevant to mechanical engineering.
  • Work effectively in multidisciplinary teams to solve complex mechanical engineering problems related to a variety of technologies shaping the future of our lives.
